The origins of the 'Fish' symbol go back much further than Jesus - it is actually based on two equilateral triangle shapes, one pointing upwards (representing the Kingly Power - 'mishpat') the other pointing downward (representing the Priestly Power - 'tsedeq'). When alligned upon their centres, they form a hexagram which is more familiar as the 'Star of David'.

The two triangles can be positioned in a number of different ways (but always with one pointing upwards, the other pointing down), and represented by a number of different objects (in order to conceal the true meaning) for example - the 'Square & Compasses' Masonic symbol.

When you place the two triangles base-to-base (to form a diamond) and extend the right hand side of each triangle - hey presto! a fish!
