A Conversation for The Beijing Mass Transit System
In dire need of updating

As someone else has already remarked, the eastward extension of Line One has been open for some time.
Line 13, a loop through the northern suburbs from Dongzhimen to Xizhimen has been open for a couple of years. North-south Line 5 is nearing completion, and several others, including lines connecting Beijing West railway station and the airport are due for completion before the Beijing Olympics of 2008.
While the entry mentions that the metro doesn't go beyond the second ring road, in fact Line 1 has extended a very long way beyond since it first opened.
And the Beijing bus fleet has been very much updated, with many more buses than before, and many of them running on LPG.
