Always get the best, most durable clothing you can afford - preferably leather as synthetics and natural fibres don't have the wear resistance that may save your life.
I have heard that, on tarmac at 30mph, human bone wears down at a rate of two inches per second.
I don't know if this is true, but I will not ride my bike without a full set of leathers because of this.
