There is of course a controversy...
The Eccles cake has a rival - the Banbury cake - which is essentially similar - except that it comes from Banbury and that it is not round. (It's got 'ears' on the side so it looks a bit like a stretched oval shape - they also tend to be slightly larger than your average Eccles cake.)
