A Conversation for Progressive Rock
Pink Floyd

The old Floyd/prog debate begins again (it came up while this entry was being edited, also). The Floyd simply do not fit the criteria for prog rock in my book, however closely associated they may seem. The Floyd were much more of a Psychadelic blues band than a prog band proper. Same can be said for Hawkwind & the early Deep Purple (although the latter's Concert for Orchestra came closer than the Floyd's stab at same with Atom Heart Mother). I don't expect mine to be the final word on this, but the entry has to draw a line somewhere.
For a great discussion of this very topic, pick up "Listening to the Future" By Bill Martin (he's on my side on this, btw...).
