i heard a story about KISS.
paul and gene were holding auditions for a lead guitarist. they had been listening to different guys all afternoon, and there was a big line of people waiting their turn to play. ace just came in out of nowhere, presumably from space. he immediately walked straight to the front of the line, plugged in his guitar and started wailing his ass off.
they hired him on the spot.

Plus, he had one red and one green shoe on!
He was a cab driver in NYC when he read the ad and decided to audition.

It's true...in fact, they were talking to Bob Kulick at the time (who probably would have been the lead guitarist if Ace hadn't showed up)...Bob's brother, Bruce, later played in KISS, and Bob himself did lead guitar for 4 tracks of Alive 2.

Bob also appeared on Paul Stanley's solo album from 1978, and on the part-studio part-compilation album 'Killers'. Bob was in Paul's band for his solo tour in 1989.
