Plymouth Hoe

Clary

A point of grammatical usage: we down here in Devon never say 'The Plymouth Hoe'. It's either Plymouth Hoe or The Hoe.

Don Malvado, so bitter my cat won't even lick me

Why is it called the Plymouth Hoe?

If anyone asks me I tell them that in the old days of sailing ships, sailors would see the high patch of land in front of Plymouth and shout "Plymouth Hoe" from the rigging, so they called it that.

Totally made up but believable enough for the more gullible specimens

Isn't it from the ladies that frequent Plymouth.
