Stan Roger's death...

The story I heard was that he died while rescuing two other passengers. He managed to pull two from the flames, but when he went in a third time, the smoke became too much for him and he passed out.

Lentilla. I hadn't seen that in any of the biographies I read but it sounds like the kind of thing he would have done.
Flyingtwinkle I don't believe he had a premonition any more than any of us know we will eventually die. Personally I've said numerous times thay I'd like my ashes spread on the shore of the West coast of Vancouver Island. I hope that is a long time in the future and I'm sure that Stan felt that way when he made his request. The song he wrote to his wife would indicate he had a great desire to live a long life, but sadly we have only what he left us when that life was cut all to short by the terrible accident.
