I'm currently reading a newly purchased copy of Fear And Loathing In America: The Brutal Oddyssey of an Outlaw Journalist, having alraedy read F+L in Las Vegas (obviously) and F+L on rail, and there is something none of these books have told me, which is this:
What does the S stand for?

Stockton. It stands for Stockton.
I found that info here: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0159142.html
...directed by a Google search.
just another fact in the Guide...

hunter has recently published another, titled Fear and Loathing in America: The Brutal Odyssey of an Outlaw Journalist. needless to say, it is not a best-seller, nor will it EVER be at the local library.

hunter is currently writing, maybe weekly, at www.espn.go.com, apparently wagering heavily on baseball's playoffs and our ovoid style of football (which hardly ever uses the feet.)

What team do you support?
I've only been a baseball fan since 98, so I'm not used to the Yankees not reaching the world series. Hell, until last season I wasn't used to them not WINNING the world series

Actually, having read your personal space, you're probably a Cleveland fan aren't you?

since 1965, so for 30 years i suffered. going to the ballpark for yankees' games, there would be several buses from upper new york state becuz it was easier (and much cheaper) for them to come to cleve-burg than go to yanker stadium.

I only worked out you were from Cleveland because astabulah is mentioned in the theme to Drew Carey!

i remember reading about there being an outcry by some people in cleveland when he did an episode with bernie Kosar, Joe Walsh, Little Richard and (Sorry I've forgotten his name) the mayor, and someone wrote a letter to a newspaper saying that he was just taking the mickey out of cleveland, his how gave the city a bad reputation, they could do without outsiders like him bringing their city down, and he should pick another city to pick on.
His response, in his book "Dirty jokes and Beer"- "I'M FROM CLEVELAND! I'M FROM CLEVELAND! I'M FROM CLEVELAND! I'M FROM CLEVELAND! I'M FROM CLEVELAND! I'M FROM CLEVELAND!"

the mayor would've been mike white. he jumped on the bandwagon to save the browns' name, colors and records and got hisself some big-time national attention. hunter thompson would have been on his butt, big time. i'll be signing off, laundry to fold, have Things To Do.
oh yeah, rolling stone magazine once published a photo of hunter and his "attorney" (as described in F&L in vegas)which i clipped and later had laminated that hangs on one of the walls. indeed, oscar is wearing a black glove, so as not to leave fingerprints. later...
