A Conversation for Roguelike games

It would be nice if the Edited Guide had some information on roguelike computer games (Nethack, ADOM and so forth). See A2089235 for my first attempt at contributing something on this topic. I put it in Writing Workshop hoping to get some help with it, but no-one has responded yet.

Hi Eka...
That's a good start to a promising Entry. I think it's good enough to go straight into Peer Review, where it will certainly draw more people's attention.

I agree with Master B - sling it in to PR.
I must admit no previous knowledge of the genre at all, so can't comment from experience - you don't make clear how people get hold of these games - I assume they are principally internet based, rather than sold in shops?

I third the motion. Put it in PR!
Though, thinking ahead, there would be a problem in linking to the entries on NetHack, ADOM, and Angband as none of them are Edited. But I'm sure we could find ways around that!

I've a vague memory of playing 'Rogue', back in 1982, but I don't remember any of the details.
Yes, this is good enough for Peer Review.

Submitted to PR. The ADOM entry is mine, and I slung it into PR too. (If I understood the workings of h2g2 "projects" with lots of interconnected entries, this would probably be one.) I have played more than enough Nethack to write an Edited Guide entry on it, but whether or when I'll have the time to do so is another matter.
Angband could be more of a problem, as I haven't played it enough to write an Edited Guide entry about it.

I remember other games of the same ilk, in the late 70s and early 80s, of different names than those given. I can't remember them in detail though (even the proper names!) as I didn't really play games as much as write them. So it might be worth checking around a bit to find out if you have missed some in the same family/style. There was something about "hunting the wampus" (early 80s) but again I'm fuzzy on the details.

I vaguely remember having a Rogue game on Windows 95, so the genre is far from extinct.

Does anyone feel able to write about Rogue or Dungeon Crawl? Obviously there are vast numbers of obscure roguelikes and we could never write about them all, but those two are quite important. Sadly I've never played them so I can't help.
