A Conversation for Limericks

Asimov's Limericks

Post 1

wonko the sane

The Science Fiction writer Isaac Asimov was a master of the Limerick:
You can't call the British Queen Ms,
T'aint as nice as Elizabeth is,
But I think that the Queen
would be even less keen,
to hear herself referred to as Liz.

His very name is just begging for a limerick.

A polymath pundit named Asimov...

Anyone come up with the next line?

This rhyme is medically sick.

Thanks Jon Q, I couldn't see any future for that rhyme.

How about another try:

The bright son of Asimov, Isaac
could solve algorithms with one hand behind his back
But despite this addiction
he switched to science fiction
"I make more money writing as a hack."

Oh well, leave limericks to the Brits...

What are you? Asimov was certainly not one of us.

I'm a world child but my mum was born in Lincolnshire... but even if Asimov wasn't English the truth remains "the English are best" (at least in things limerickal!

Okay. I might let you have that. However, I reckon that the English would be the worst at Limericks in a foreign language.

That's a terrific idea. Has anybody posted something like that?

I think I might be able to manage a Portuguese limerick:

Um marinheiro de Lisboa
viajou a Cascais por canoa,
Voltou a correr
Com as mãos a tremer
e um tubarão perto á proa.

Translation...

A mariner from Lisbon
traveled to Cascais by canoe
He returned in a hurry
with his hands trembling
and a shark near the prow.

Pat, pat on back. Whew that was tough.

Anybody got another language they can share?!?

A dit 'Oh la la,

Mais l'hibou a dit seulement 'ooooo'

Appalling. Really appalling.
