A Conversation for Limericks

A Limerick rebellion to ponder

Post 1

I'd like to submit one of mine for your reading pleasure. I wrote it a few years back, and even got it published on the Web under the title "Rickelim" (not my idea) by one of those "We'll publish it, you might want to pay for a bound copy" schemes; not a great accolade, but Ho Hum...

Anyway, where was I? Ah yes:

A Limerick-writer perverse,
When asked how he wrote,
Said "I learned by rote,
But from upside-down books, what a curse!
Now my poetry scans in reverse!"

Shouldn't it be called Kciremil then?

I can see where you're coming from. But actually, thinking about it, if it were called "Kciremil", you might expect all the words to be written backwards too. I reckon "Rickelim" perfectly conveys the idea that the words are forwards but the structure is backwards.

Damn! Now you've made me like the title, and it's too late, I've already said that I didn't name it... smiley - smiley

Or perhaps the words could be normal, but
the lines would be in reverse order, as in:

If they are, you just call the MD's."
And make sure they're not dead.
You just pop them in bed,
Who said, "Caring for kids is a breeze.

Blimey, someone who's more surreal than I am! Congratulations... I think.

i think it's better the first way. Because if you read it backwards first, it spoils the ending, but if you read it the right way the ending and the poem accentuate one another quite nicely.
