As a teenager i was plunged into a very different society from my own - the uks private school system in the 60s.
It seemed the aim of the system was to get you to divorce yourself from your feelings as much as possible. Injustice, intolerance and plain nastyness were quite ok if you were strong enough to give, otherwise just accept.
Couldnt do that.
Endless conflict - tried every strategy in the book - the article is excellent.
In the end sucess came through stepping back into a utterly calm serene world where a violent but entirely justifiable response could take place. First a set of warnings.
Thus a factory worker who id hospitalised at work stood up for me and became a friend.
Road rage incident solved by running over the guys feet - gently and calmly.(never heard any more)
No aggresion - careful calculation allways aware. Allways looking at it from the other persons point of view, allways trying to find the answer - why?
I live in a place now where there is very little road rage - where people are relaxed and for the most part happy - to feel the shackles falling off is truly something wonderous - but the loss of all those years to fruitless anger and strife because someone wanted to take it out on me --------
