i enjoyed this article, not the least because it delights me when good solutions are implemented. as other posters have noted, the idea is not new, but at least it has been taken up in a useful way.

many years ago, more than 2 decades, i read about a butter cooler than enabled you to keep butter out of the fridge. i live in australia btw so it always has to live in the fridge. but fridge butter is pretty much unspreadable even when kept in those butter compartments. so when i read about a butter container made of pottery, double skinned with evaporative water cooling i was instantly fired up.

20 years plus later and i still haven't actually found one. it drives me nuts on a regular basis.
