Antimicrobial toothbrushes

Worldwide, the leading cause of tooth decay is Streptococcus mutans. This bacterium sticks to the surface of teeth, subsisting on a diverse range of carbohydrates. thus producing the acids responsible for dental caries
Virtually everybody carries S. mutans.
A study at the University of Milan has found that a toothbrush produced by 'Silver-Care' reduces S. mutans by about 50%. This toothbrush releases silver ions that prevent the bacterium from clinging to the bristles between brushings, and then transferring them back to the teeth. Presumably, they may also cause the bacteria to be released from the teeth
