h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

It's a variation of the theme of the older woman taking a "toy boy".

In the otherwise cheesey song "Summer - the first time" by Bobby Goldsboro, the sophisticated older woman who is on a mission to relieve the seventeen-year old Goldsboro of his virginity is portrayed as a Southern Belle in her thirties who is sipping on a Julep, as she outlines what the coming night will hold vis-a-vis Jollies.

(This song came out at just the right time to **** up a whole generation of rising sixteen year old males, including me, who got carried away with the romance of it all and failed to realise that the attentions of an experienced thirty-something woman are not mandatory on one's seventeenth birthday. I mean, if it were, there'd be a Government agency sorting it all out and no doubt giving somebody like me the equivalent of NHS glasses - a thirtysomething Norah Batty or Bella Emberg. With middle-class families, who could afford to go private, buying better for their sons... but I digress)

In fact, the scenario of a sophisticated thirtysomething woman sexually initiating a seventeen year old boy must logically have happened once or twice in the history of the world, but based on our experience*, so rarely as for its resolute refusal to manifest in our lives not to be worth agonising over. (Hmm, wonder if this is worth a Guide entry....)

Every so often you read about cases in the paper where some woman who is inevitably portrayed as a sad desperate, old cow is in the dock for "unlawful sexual intercourse" with a male or males under the age of sixteen. The one that sticks in my mind is that of a woman who wasn't too bad-looking, by council estate standards, in her middle thirties, who (while her own kids were at school)filled the lonely days by making it known she was willing to sexually initiate any young lad who asked. The result of which was that "rocking-horse Wendy", as she was known, was reputed to have broken in at least a hundred lads on her estate befor the police took an interest...

And then there are the cases of the schoolteachers who took pastoral care of young male pupils a little too far... is it me or is this getting more and more common?

Also, can't help reflecting that if the roles were reversed, and a male teacher of between 25-45 had been caught fiddling with girl pupils, he wouild have been crucified. Suspicion of a double standard here?

Considering I went through seven years at school, and I can recall two or three female teachers of varying degrees of attractiveness, there wasn't even the slightest, remotest, sniff of a female teacher behaving anything other than perfectly professionally.

Damn.

But has this romantic ideal, of boy in his teens being sexually initiated by older sophisticated woman in her thirties or forties.... has this ever happened anywhere without coming to tears?

I can only think of maybe ONE situation anywhere on the fringes of my life where anything remotely like this might have happened. And even now I can't decide if gossip and rumour might have built this up into something bigger than it actually was...

Any ideas out there?
