I was hoping to see that the entry for earth stayed true to the real guide.

Ah but in the fifth book of the trilogy "Mostly Harmless", wasn't all of Ford Prefect's original research published on the guide?
I ask merely for information.

I think it was, but in a parallel universe. If one assumes that there are infinitively many parallel universes, as it was suggested in the book, then the entry for 'Earth' exists in every possible form. Thus it is only a matter of 'where'...
But good question, I will look that up tomorrow, when I can access the book again (my girlfriend's sleeping...).

I don't get it, why can't you access the book?

What, so do he have to produce and infinite number of H2G2 sites then? One for each dimension? Didn't they get taught about sharing? I don't get it!

Hilarious Joke Posted Jul 21, 2002
I don't think so. That's seems extremely difficult. Who got taught about sharing? I don't understand either!

Of course we don't have to create one for every dimension, because it's already been done! Think paradoxically here!

It is vitally important to have a different Guide for each dimension. Don't you remember what happened last time?

I think it really depends on each individual universe as to whether or not they need a guide and what form the entries take within that guide. Remember that every universe has it's differences and that these differences should be highly respected.
However, a question that does beg to be asked is whether 1 single fully updated and comprehensive Guide existing multi-dimensionally could cover the needs of all universes and dimensions!!

If we are in the 3rd dimension, then what is the 1st dimension?

I Am Myriad Posted May 8, 2003

Well, if you haven't lost interest completely...
I assume "I Am Myriad" is a static entity, since time is not listed as a dimension.
1st Dimension: Height
2nd Dimension: Width
3rd Dimension: Breadth i.e. 3D
4th Dimension: Time (which is typically observed as the universal entropic gradient but my late father could never grasp the idea. I rather think the notion that the world was not flat had shaken him up.)

There are 11 dimensions based on the widest accepted theory (string) and every scientist worth his bacon says there are more then 4. But the diminsions you are talking about are not these types they are alternate realities. Every point in time there are infinite desicisions and a diffrent realities spawns from evry possible desicion so there is infinite realities.

I forget who the author was, but in the novel "The Proteus Experiment" the author uses the idea that time travel within a single reality is not possible, but time travel between alternate realities may be. A victorious Nazi Germany uses a time-travel device (Operation Pipe-Organ) to attempt to invade and conquer realities where the Nazis were defeated.
Then there is R.A.Heinlein's "Job. A Divine Comedy" in which the hero finds himself slipping unpredictably from one reality to the next.
