A Conversation for Drinking in Australia

Great entry!
One thing I think it *could* touch on, though, to save potential embarassment for tourists (both interstate and overseas), is the strong loyalty Australians have for beer, along state lines.
eg Queensland = XXXX
Victoria = VB
NSW = Toohey's (is this still right? it's a while since
I've been there...)
WA = EB/VB
I don't know about SA, NT, or Tassie, but if you ask for a XXXX in most states you will be laughed at, jeered, beaten and left without a drink... just be careful.
When in Rome...
Cheers
Rob

In Tassie, you won't go wrong asking for Cascade Pale Ale.
It's also pretty safe in other states, because none of the other state's drinkers feel threatened by it.
On the other hand, it can sometime be hard to get, and I've never seen it on tap or in fact in a can.
(Not Tasmanian, but with sufficient family...)

Actually, I've started drinking Coopers, which has started coming on tap all over the place. Very nice, and a good range as well.

The only thing I have to add would be:
Tassie - Boags
SA - Coopers
NT - Well, it was VB or XXXX in the part where I was, but that was on a cattle station - not too much sophistication out there . . .

Actually Guinness is the new flavour, and in pints (NSW) only? My local has a 100 pint guinness club
