A Guide to Basic Chords

Shouldn't that be A Guide to Basic Guitar Chords, to distinguish the subject from Piano Chords, Banjo Chords, Mandolin Chords, etc.? Instruments often vary in number of strings and tuning, completely changing how chords are formed, yes?

This was written more with piano in mind. Chords are the same thing on any instrument, it's just that each instrument has a different fingering for it. This Entry is not meant to teach that, only the theory of how chords work.

The instruments change, but the notes remain the same (except for instruments based on the diatonic scale).

I guess I was thrown by the Guitar picture, and the mention of guitar fingering at the bottom, but that would be tabulature wouldn't it?

Yes, I actually disapprove of the guitar picture. For some reason, this Entry has had two different pictures, both depicting a guitar, and the current one is not the original. I especially don't like this picture because it doesn't necceserily show a chord being played.
