As someone who has a ridiculous soft spot for dogs, I don't mind admitting that I shed a tear or two while reading this.
Thank you!

A Sunday afternoon story if ever there was one. I found it touching that Sergeant Scott at last got a memorial on his grave after all these years. Shows this story still stirs emotion.

I too have a soft spot for dogs.. Must admit, I had a lump in my throat reading about Greyfriars Bobby.. A lot of human beings in this world could learn a lesson or two there.. for a wonderful entry.

I'm happy you enjoyed it, and delighted you stopped by with such nice feedback, not many folks can spare the time these days.

You're extremely welcome.. As someone who is completely soppy over dogs, it was well worth the time taken.

As a child of the seventies, you'll remeber the Saturday morning movies - where I first encountered Greyfriars Bobby. Little doggies like that are hard to find in real life though.

I've had a few dogs in my time, but they've all just been dogs.
Not that there's anything wrong with that I've loved them just the same, .
There is a campaign for your favourite smiley page somewhere around here. I'm sure is one of those on it.

for the smiley info... I'll have to check it out. No doubt about it, dogs can brighten up your day (well, they do mine). I have a dog called Flo (please don't laugh - she was a Battersea dog, so we didn't lumber her with that un-canine like moniker!) Alright, you can laugh!!. She's quite a character. Don't know if she'd do any ' Greyfriars Bobby' type deeds, though! I just realised I sound like a dog-bore, but I do go completely soppy when the topic of conversation turns to our canine pals!!. Good job I work in a dog-friendly bookshop. where we allow dogs into the shop to say hello!! (sorry, I'm at it again! Just tell me to shush if it gets too annoying!)

My current dog is called - wait for it ......................................... Fizz.
I know, named by my daughter after that tweenie creature.
She is sweet, and clever but I can't see her waiting for me anywhere past dinner time.

Aw, that's sweet! Actually, I rather like the Tweenies, too, but that's another story I'm too embarrassed to go into!! Especially since I'm thirty-four years old with no kids!!! Milo is my favourite character.Sorry about that, went off at a slight tangent there! Actually, it's rather appropriate for a Fizzymouse to have a 'Fizzydog', I think!

Go for it!! Dogs are definately worth the effort of taking care of them. If you get a dog from the rescue centre, they should be able to give you lots of good advice and match you up with a dog to suit your lifestyle.. Good luck! Keep me posted on how you get on..

Another benefit of a rescue dog is that they are usually past the chew anything phase.
When we got Fizz, she chewed all the skirting boards, the legs of my kitchen chairs and all the plants in the garden..........so it's nice just to skip that bit and go straight to enjoying the dog.

The do an induction in dog walking, which is an ideal opportunity to get to know the dogs there and yes, you're right, it should be past the potty training stage

oops!!.. You probably felt like ing. I 'spose I'm lucky there.. You're right, of course.. Fortunately, I didn't have that problem with Flo.. (Just as well, as a German Shepherd/Dobermann cross would cause a lot of damage!!)
