A Conversation for Greyfriars Bobby - a Devoted Dog
Gaspode, the Wonder Dog

Of course, there's the Terry Pratchett explanation! (in "Moving Pictures"), where Gaspode the Wonder Dog is explaining how he got named after the more famous Gaspode, a dog who in Ankh-Morpork bears a suspicious resemblance to Greyfriars Willie.
"Course he sat by the graveside howling and didn't move" said Gaspode. "You're bound to howl and not move a lot when they've just planted a bloody great heavy gravestone on your tail, aren't you? Stands to reason, that"
Now I know the full story on which Pratchett created Gaspode, and I think you!
