I believe that the statement you made refering to what the people of the U.P. call the Upper Penninsula. People up there call it the U.P. although with the heavy accent of many older folks with a finnish backround, the spelling just as it's said would be
"Da Yoo Pe".
Also, I haven't heard the shape of the U.P. refered to as looking like a rabbit. That rabbit and mitten invention doesn't sound like fact. I can see the mitten right off the bat but the rabbit thing takes longer to see.
I hope people take this into consideration upon reviewing the Michigan article.

As a Michigan resident, I wish to correct a couple of things I know to be in error.......the state motto is 'If you seek a pleasaint...' Its the 'Great Lake State' And one of the perks of living in lower Michigan, is that as long as you have a right hand, you have a map of Michigan. And there's always a pretty good chance we'll have a college football team in a bowl game on new year's day.

I agree with the rabbit analogy. As a longtime Michigan resident, I have never heard the UP referred to as a rabbit. It has always been the left hand.
