michigan is known as "the great lakes state" not the lakes state, to display a map of the lower peninsula simply hold out your right hand, palm up...no one in michigan uses a hand to display the upper peninsula ( youre on drugs ) and although upper peninsula residents are referred to as yoopers, lower peninsula residents are not referred to as trolls except by you. the major cities, in order of population are...Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo. if anyone needs to know the real facts, figures and trivia relating to michigan, you can email me at [email protected]

Your right about the fact that we are "The great lakes State" and about displaying a map of lower Michigan using your right hand but...

Myself being a "Yooper" I do take offense to the fact you left out the one city noted in the article referring to the Upper Penisula-Sault Ste. Marie. There are also lots of other large cities in Upper Penisula that were not mentioned like Marquette, which has a very large University called Northern Michigan University, as well as Houghton and Hancock. I know there are more but for now that is just a few of the larger well known cities around the Upper Penisula.

I live in Michigan an have been hearing the words Troll and Yooper for a long time. But back in elementry school we were not taught that the upper penisula was seen as a "rabbit", but as a "shark".
