After reading this piece on Michigan I noted that the only glimpse
of the scale involved here is the Square Miles.
A line listing the distance from Detroit to St. Sault Marie
would have been useful. I know from experience that it is
an all day drive to go from the Ohio state Line to where the UP
(pronounced yup but written UP) meets Wisconsin is an all day drive.

I've been told somewhere that to drive from Ironwood, MI to Detroit is about the same distance as driving from Detroit to NYC

this is probably quite true. If you don't mind my asking , is there some reason you are not using a nickname?
