As a Yooper by birth and a lifetime resident of Michigan, I would like to react briefly to this entry.

First, the use of the right hand as an instant map for the lower peninsula of the state has in my experience always been common practice--by using left and right hand together, one can represent the whole of the state (though you have to point with your nose or some such).

Also, I must confess to never having thought of the UP (upper peninsula) as being the shape of a running rabbit. Although given that Lake Superior to the north, with its Isle Royale eye, looks so much like a grinning wolf, I can see why the rabbit would run!

Hail Michigan (especially the empty parts).
