Hi Danny, I always meant to read and comment on this, but only made it now - after I am with a (stable) PC and music again. I started the day lsistening to the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, and now I remembered your entry.
Wonderfully written, and great to have so much info about the band and the songs. It's funny, when I saw the song title 'My brother makes the noises for the talkies' I immediately thought of the Max Raabe version (German): Mein Bruder macht im Tonfilm die Geräusche' and I went and searched for it on YouTube where I found this gem from 1931:

I recognised the tune, but he could have been singing about anything 
Have you heard the Bonzos' version of 'Mr Apollo' with the closing monologue in German?

They *could* but the song is about his brother making noises for the talkies.
I've never heard this Mr Apollo version, no. Didn't find it on YT, either.
