Thanks Kelli - and thanks again for your support! smiley - smiley

Probably the last scouting-related entry I'll do, but there are a couple more written by others which should hit the FP soon.

smiley - cheers Icy

As I recall from my own camp-fire days, one version extolled the virtues of personal hygiene:

"Wash them gooly-gooly-gooly-gooly-goolies
Wash them well, wash them well..."

Something to be encouraged smiley - winkeye

A Scouting classic, even in Australia, the most distant part of the Empire; didn't realise it was by BP himself though.

And here in Quebec, Canada the song goes down well with both anglophone and francophone scouting members. It's a long way from extinction!

I sang the song in the 1950's around the campfire with our scoutmaster. I had long ago forgotten it but saw this entry and instantaneously, I had the tune and words nearly down pat.

Thanks

Hi royalrcrompton, and a belated welcome to h2g2 smiley - smiley

I'm glad it stirred some memories - it's a story from a time when children were children.

I never had the opportunity to join the scouts, but I've always been impressed by B-P's vision to unite the youth of the world.

smiley - cheers Icy

Hi Icy North!

In the 1970's, The Boy Scouts of Canada developed and completed a wonderful 30 km. trail through the forests of the North Shore (Greater Vancouver), naming it the Baden Powell Trail in honour of Lord Baden Powell of Gilwell, the movement's founder. He was certainly one of the great visionaries of his day in establishing such a wonderful means of turning boys into respectable and honourable men.
