Great Entry, very sound (!no pun intended!)advice.
All i would add is make sure you keep eye contact with the audience & smile (unless obviously you are doing a tragic song)...it's actually less scary to do eye contact than not; you are bound to find someone sympathetic, even if it's one of your Rent-A-Crowd.
