I have only once performed at an open mic. and was mad enough to do so acapella! It went down pretty well, but it was very scary, possibly even scarier than doing it with musical accompaniment. Of course, it did have the added benefit that there was nothing to be out of tune with...
Open mic evenings are great, and I've always enjoyed those I've been to - it's a great opportunity to hear random music played live.
