“The Exercise”
Why?
1. It’s a reasonable form of physical as well as mental exercise – especially if you cycle to and from the tower (& the pub – see below).
2. Beer. (Practice is invariably followed by a visit to the pub at towers that are fortunate to be within walking distance of same).
3. You might meet some interesting people (no, really – a high proportion of ringers are University graduates, and to be a really successful ringer it helps to be highly intelligent).
4. You may meet a nubile member of the opposite sex (or even the same sex if you’re that way inclined).
5. Ringers are generally very welcoming of visiting ringers (although the welcome may be proportional to the ability of the visiting ringer and inversely proportional to ability of the local band!), so it’s a good way of meeting people if you move to a new area.
6. You might learn something…

Why?
on the other hand, you might get strangeled by a rope, and die.
I do admit this doesnt happen much.
