In North America wrens, such as the Bewicks Wren and the Carolina Wren are notorious for building nests in very wierd places. I knew of one wren nest built in the top angle of the arm of a backhoe that was left idle for a couple of days. Another was built in a back office of a equipment garage that normally had the large doors open during the day. The Cactus Wren is the giant of the wren family here in Texas, being about half as big again as a starling.
