More City fans than United fans in Manchester

This was tested by a survey which compared the number of City season ticket holders to United season ticket holders with Manchester postcodes. The survey showed (and I haven't got a link, but I can get one) that there are in fact slightly more City season ticket holders in Manchester than United. And as City have just sold around an
extra 10,000 season tickets this year as they move to a larger stadium the difference has probably increased.
I'm not saying that's the reason United are hated (and I disliked them in the 1970s when they weren't successful and City were) - I just wanted to make the point.

Yet further nonsense from the Manchester City PR brigade. The actual report said there are more United season ticket holders with a Manchester postcode, but a greater percentage of City season ticket holders had a Manchester postcode, than did United. Not actually the same thing.
And given the high proportion of non-local students and residents of Stockport and Hyde there are in the MCFC fanbase I'd keep quiet about it.
Manchester is and always has been red. So has the rest of the country.
