Gedge :-)

This ABU was around long before they were sucessful. It stems from their fans being so serious, how we rejoiced when they were relegated to division two. We used to call them the "gunners" as the were always gunner win this or gunner win that. (ie going to win that or going to win this) Unfortunately now they always do!
I've also been to an Ashes match at Trent Bridge were the chant was 'Stand up if you hate Man U' and about half the crowd did, still nothing else was happening (except England were losing) and people probably needed to stretch their legs.

Snoeker

and possibly because of the crap attitude of their players (Keane, Stam, et al) towards referees and the fact that they always get away with it.

Nah,ppl hate Man.Utd because they are just
too good for he team that these ppl support so they make up this naff
song "Stand up if you hate Man.U.."
It is pretty sad that some ppl can be so jealous of a football team that
they force their children into NOT supporting Man.Utd.smiley - yawn
It does get boring for Man.Utd fans to hear these smiley - silly songs!
It was illarious at first but its gone way over my head now!

Now I'm just mumbling to myselfsmiley - laugh

The poster obviously does not know Manchester. There have always been two main platforms of City propaganda:

1) City are the Manchester club.
3/4 of Manchester is red. There are statistics that show that United has the biggest local support of any club. A couple of years ago, United got a 60,000+ crowd in midweek - in the middle of a petrol shortage.

2) Old Trafford is not in Manchester.
The stadium comes under Trafford borough council, and not Manchester. As if anybody gives a toss.

The first fallacy has become common currency amongst ABU's nationwide, since United's prolonged run of success.

There is no logical reason to hate United. They play attractive football (unlike Arsenal a decade ago and Liverpool now). They have achieved their success with a squad - many of which are local lads.
It all comes down to the British love of plucky losers and distrust of winners.

Only Liverpool (traditional and mutual) and Leeds (irrational, but not reciprocated so much) have legitimate reason to hate Manchester United. Oh, and City.

This is Boll*cks!!!
Liverpool ( The Fantastic Team Of The Eighties and Even Late Seventies) were very attacking minded, very easy on the eyes, they did play attractive football won umpteen number of trophies, domestically and abroard, virtually won everything under the sun (barring the less important now redundant European Cup Winners Cup)
and they were never hated to the degree that Man U are now today.

I am a Liverpool season ticket owner from Colwyn Bay (no not Liverpool) and we ( Liverpool fans ) do not get the same kind of stick United fans get for being a supporter from another part of the country. We are not arrogant, like a lot of United fans, yes they have had an unbelieveable run of success over the past 10 years, and rightly so they deserve it for being the most attacking team of the last decade. They never used to be though, I remember when they too played their football with caution. Now though arsenal are the Kings they play the ( All guns blazing ) type of football that wins trophies, and guess what ?

They will not be hated like Manchester United.
Why.....?
Because they haven't got an Ars*Whole for a manager.
One who moans about anything and everything.

The pitch..... (Same for both teams)

The kit........(hello, but didn't you see the kit before the start of the season?)
The referee.... (well if the big hand is on Mickey and the little hand is on Pluto, well then there must be 7 minutes of injury time by Fergies watch!)

I am sorry but the manager is a fantastic manager, he is brilliant.
You only have to look at what the guy has won both in England and in Scotland, nothing short of stunning. Almost every manager would wish to have that much success under their belts when they retire...
Almost.

Bob paisely surpassed Sir Alex's achievements, what has he got?
A knighthood? no sireee. No knighthood for Bob, though he should have been knighted he wasn't. Laughtable really but then Paisely never was a loud mouth, ready to spit his dummy out whenever things wern't going to plan!

I do not hate Manchester United, I am jealouse of their recent success though, whoever says that the are not is lying.
I do honestly thing that Alex ( sorry ) Sir Alex Fergusson is the reason why United are hated so much.

Sparq.

Correction. Neither Bob Paisley nor any other manager has ever matched Fergie's achievement, the real treble - championship, cup, European Cup.

The last post but one is spot on. Anyone who knows Manchester knows that at least 50% of Mancunians support United.

United are hated because they're successful and rich. Any other reason for hating them is simply an excuse.

By the way, there are as many coaches from all round the country (especially Wales) outside Anfield on a match day as there are outside Old Trafford.

United are the most popular and most unpopular team in the country and long may it last, the envy of Ciddy, Scousers. L***s and the rest.
