A Conversation for The 'Wales' and the 'Belgium' as Units of Measurement
Decline and Fall

You may be interested to know that I found a reference to The Wales in chapter 1 of Gibbon's The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire [1776].
"[Palestine].. was a territory scarcely superior to Wales, either in fertility or extent."
Delightful. Yet there must be earlier usages of The Wales floating around somewhere....
Any takers?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
