Thank you for your encapsulated review of this marvelous performer. I'd always enjoyed her comedies, and she was quite a good dramatic actress; but my favorites are probably her musicals.
My absolute favorite was the excellent work she did on a film biography titled "Love Me or Leave Me" with Jimmy Cagney. Great performances, but the special treat was hearing her do songs outside her more public repetoire.
