Personally I have to admit I found it hard going.
I thought I'd find it easier with A level chemistry and a slew of popular science books under my belt.

Well, I'm an interested (modified) layman. That is, I am a physicist by trade but interested in chemistry as a layman. I found the article readable, but by no means light reading.

I think we all agree that the article isn't for the layman. Like A729885, this article has a paragraph at the beginning explaining that prior knowledge is needed. Both A729885 and this article are, nevertheless, valuable additions to the EG.
Alitnil, look out for the second of Iridium's article that should be Edited very soon.

Now the cascading style sheets entry I had no problem with. Thanks for pointing it out Rho! I think I'll use that a bit more.
I guess I wasn't that interested in Valency
