Almost Two Years Away

Just looked at the last dated entry on the jounral and it's almost two years ago.

I stopped contributing the day after DNA died. For some reason I didn't want to read/write/get involved with anything connected to him. Daft really. The best way to keep his memory alive is to contribute to a project he set up.

Anyway, I'm back now and hoping that the place is as good as I remember. It's a bit like coming back to a pub that you thought was great but finding you don't know any of the regulars, the landlord or even the dress code. Odd.

On the Fragility of Ankles

A couple of weeks before Christmas 2000 I broke my ankle. As it was winter, the first question people asked when they saw me in plaster or limping was:-
"Did you break it skiing/playing football/rugby etc.?"
When I replied that I had fallen down the stairs at home, the second question everyone asked was:-
"Had you been drinking?"
And I could only reply in honesty that I had.

It surprised me how severely I broke it. A triple fracture and I only actually fell down three stairs. For the sake of a few glasses of vino I now have big lumps of metal inside me. I have lived for 28 years and fallen down stairs countless times whilst sober and drunk and never suffered any ill effects. So why did this particular fall result in the airport security nightmare I now have? I don't suppose I'll ever know but I'm damn sure I'm not going to experiment to find out.

Hangover Cure

Been trying Lemsip as a hangover cure recently. It's got that nice tangy edge to it that you need after a night on the beers. Unfortunately, I've just tried it on a wine hangover and it's causing all sorts of nonsense to go on in my guts which really isn't helping at all.
Still, we live and learn. Probably.

Non Smoking Day

Today is national non-smoking day and every time I see a poster or leaflet or TV ad featuring the word "smoking" I get a terrible craving for a ciggie. I've smoked more today than any other day this year. How ironic.

Apathy

Been affected by apathy the last few days. 2 weeks off work, moving into my new house and working my nadgers off in one way or another most days has left me feeling low and in need of a recharge - let alone my back problems. Have already stayed off 1 day longer than I said I would, and I plan to make it 2 tomorrow (or today, really, as it's 1 o'clock in the morning).
The trouble is that I still have loads left to do with my new house. Tidying, putting away, ordering and stacking things into neat piles. I don't really see the point in going into work for one day when all I'll realistically do is sort through two weeks worth of emails. Better to have today (Friday) off and have a 3 day run-up to starting work again. I'll almost definitely have finished the urgent unpacking by then and (maybe) even have finished putting together the flat-pack furniture!
Nuff said. This is my journal entry.

PS - Too many brackets and hyphens for my stylistic liking there...
