Amy P's NaJoPoMo 2012--November 1
Posted Nov 2, 2012
Yep, I'm doing NaJoPoMo this year, too. So I guess, if nothing else, this proves I *haven't* fallen off the face of the --nor even h2g2
I probably would've tried it last year, but I'd fallen out of internet and didn't know anything about it until I had internet again a couple months later and had lots of extra backlog (which I thoroughly enjoyed--I think I had about a third to a half of the participants in my Friends List!)
I'm not doing any sort of theme--just my usual rambling. You know--planning to just say something quickly, and then deciding that it needs a little more explanation, and then it ends up being really long, with too many parenthesis, dashes, and ellipses... Or else planning a nice long journal entry while showering or otherwise far from being able to get online, and then either just posting something short and simple or not at all. 'Cept of course I can't do that second bit for the next month, unless I come up with something else... Or just some stream-of-consciousness. We'll see. I do know that I'm planning to pop over elsewhere online to try to lure some old friends that I think would enjoy h2g2 over here--maybe after a month of links, one or two might stick...
Of course, maybe putting my scheme out like that will now doom it to failure
This year's NaJoPoMo is covering some extra long days--Heleloo in Australia to myself in California and, unless I'm wrong, AE Hill even later in Hawaii (I thought I saw a reference somewhere--I don't really know AE well--I've seen the name around, but I'm not even sure what pronoun to use) I've also Friended all of this year's participants whom I haven't previously--some of whom I've known for years and thought I already had
others I'd seen around for years but hadn't ever really talked to, because we travelled in different circles, or because I didn't think we would get along because of views, personality clashes, or whatnot (I'm sort of infamously conflict-avoidant, especially online, since I come here for fun and to see folks I've known longer than anyone I'm not related to (or might as well be, like friends of parents/grandparents)--without decades-long gaps), and some I've not really come across before for whatever reason. Who knows--I might just end up with more friends to rail against timezones, oceans, and continents over! I'm trying to remember to leave calling cards to let folks know I've read.
In completely other news, I've really got to remember not to let the girls slip the anything with grains in--she just fumigated the couch
Well, I should probably head off, so I don't end up going way long and using up topics

It's live!

A new blog, that is. (OK, so it was live yesterday, but it's ready now) There's not much there yet, but that's because the travels have just started.

It's alive!

I started a project the night before last (has it really been that short a time? *checks calendar* Yep) that has fully taken off. Some of you already know about it, and are already taking part, because the vast majority of participants are past and current h2g2ers.
Here's the not-directions part of the closed Facebook group description I posted yesterday morning (with corrections noted between ~s)--Faith's class is reading the Flat Stanley books this year, and have made flat versions of themselves ~actually, they made flat people, not flat versions of themselves~. Flat Faith ~Flat Abby, but we're still referring to her as Flat Faith in the group, so the group title will still work~ is to be mailed off to various places and have her picture taken. I thought, since I have friends on 5 continents, Flat Faith could have quite the world tour!
While we've got a *lot* of places for the person to go to, there may be some people who aren't on Facebook (or who are, but I don't know them there, or I *do* know them, but didn't get around to inviting because I thought that they wouldn't be interested/able/are crazy busy now or soon to be so or they live in the same house as someone I'd already invited by the time I got to their name in the listings (which would be why Z and sunny didn't get included)) who might be interested. If you *are* on Facebook, search for Flat Faith's World Adventure and ask to be invited (maybe PM me, too, telling me who you are on here, if you're not already a friend of mine there). If you're not on Facebook and would like to join in the fun, let me know, and we'll figure out arrangements (I *do* have 1 person not on fb in the sending chain already.) For instance, I'd love some pictures from Boston...
We've got 5 continents represented--if anyone knows anyone in South America or stationed in Antarctica, go ahead and point them this way

Happy birthday...

...to me! In h2g2 terms, I'm 11 today.
PaperKid is now 9.
In unrelated news, we have real internet again (as opposed to the Tom's-phone-as-hotspot variety)

Settling in
Posted May 7, 2012
Man, it's nice sitting in a room bigger than our entire former home...
I started typing this over in the atelier, but decided not to take it over--any salonistas interested in this stuff can quite easily pop over here, and any who aren't don't have to politely ignore me
We've not been doing as much packing-hauling-unpacking as we really should've been--half of our clothes are still in the trailer. But we have gone from totally unfurnished to fairly well furnished for free, though the dining room table and chairs are borrowed from the bookstore, and we're borrowing air mattresses from a friend. Beds are really the only major pieces of furniture we still need, though. Plus, we scored a washer and dryer set for $25. That's for both, not each! Nice looking set, too--I'd thought they were going to be dinged up and/or rusty, but they're not. They work well, too--the dryer doesn't shut itself off, but for $12.50, I can watch the time and turn it off myself. So what if I can't toss underwear and towels in and then go to bed with the dryer running?
I do have pictures on my phone, and I will be putting them up online somewhere that's not Facebook so that anyone can see them--I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I may even make a point to take pictures of the mystery plants, though a couple have been identified by chatting with neighbors (I didn't know that there was a variety of clematis with flowers that look like dogwood, but at least I know I can hack that back to my heart's content without killing it so I can actually get to the greenhouse...) We've (well, I have, but Tom likes my choices) figured out what we want to do painting-wise, when we get around to it (which I keep saying should be before we're fully furnished and unpacked, and Tom keeps pointing out that there are other monetary priorities than paint right now). Bailing out the pond (did I mention there's a small pond with a waterfall, though the pump doesn't work? Looks like the basin is a repurposed small bathtub, filled-in drain and all) turned into rescuing tadpoles, which of course takes longer that just tossing buckets of water on the grass, but we now have a pond filled with not-disgusting water, with tadpoles. Notepad has already taken a header into the pond, when it *did* have the disgusting water (though the dead snake turned out to be a rope and the dead turtle was plastic) and she went wading while we were filling the pond with the hose yesterday after scrubbing it out, so fencing is going to be procured ASAP.
We had a combination Thank You and Housewarming party yesterday, and I think there were between 20 and 30 people over yesterday We actually had leftovers for lunch today, though, and there are still leftovers in the fridge.
