I haven't fallen off the face of the earth...

...just out of internet access and time.

I'm not sure when I'll be on again with time to go through backlog, but I will be going through backlog. I'll catch up an Noesis when I can. Hopefully I can squeeze time online soon.

Busy, fun weeks ahead

In 1 hour, PaperKid will be 8 years old.

A few hours after that, I will have been on h2g2 for a full decade.

The next day, Tom and I will have been married for 14 years.

I want to have everything we're keeping in the trailer by the day after that, Thing by the latest, and things we want stored (boxed things only--we sold most of our furniture this past couple of days--we've just the beds and 3 shelves left) in storage--the things we aren't keeping will stay in the apartment to be sold given away.

Poets the 15th, we're heading out to Lyons, Oregon. My grandpa died a couple months ago, and the family, most of whom I've not seen since before Tom and I were married, will be celebrating his life on what would've been his 86th birthday on the 16th. While we're up there, we'll be going to the zoo in Portland (and possibly having a micromeet with gingersnapper and NuclearConfusion--Mikey definitely can't come downsmiley - sadface) It's also quite possible that an old high school friend and his family will join us--if not at the zoo, that at Silver Creek Falls--PaperKid is looking forward to walking behind a waterfall, and it's been 20 years since I've been there. It's quite likely that I'll be showing people h2g2--I've always thought that several of the folks on my dad's side would fit into h2g2 quite well, and I thin my old friend would like it, toosmiley - whistle I'll also be visiting my dad's grave at some point. I have to admit, I'm glad I got dragged onto FaceBook--this trip wouldn't be happening, otherwise, because I had lost contact with every single person from my past that I'll be seeing up there--I probably wouldn't even know Grandpa Hopper had died.

When we get back is when we'll be trying to sell the rest of our excess possessions, and we'll also be cleaning the apartment for the move.

I don't know what's on tap for August, other than getting adjusted to living in a much smaller place--hopefully Notepad will have adjusted by the time school starts in September, or else PaperKid and I will be seriously dragging in school! (First test run, Notepad fell asleep after 1am, and for the second, after 11pm.)

Well, that's that

I get automatic emails about new real estate listing and price reductions in our area.

I just got one for the house we were going to buy.

A hard decision

After getting the inspection reports (pest, well and septic) back, Tom and I have decided to not pursue the house.

We have the money designated for the downpayment in a separate account, and are planning on continuing to save money and looking at other houses in a few months' time. We have been given an opportunity to save quite a bit each month. A fifth-wheel trailer in exceptional condition has been given to us to use, and another person has given us permission to stay on their property for free. This will involve some sacrifice on our part (mostly due to smaller quarters) but should, in the long run, aid us greatly in the pursuit of a home.

One major change is that, for the time being, I'm afraid that the open invitation that's been the policy for nearly a decade will need to close, for now. There simply will not be room for any extra people to sleep in our home. On the off chance that someone wants to visit while the invitation to stay with us is closed, I can certainly give motel recommendations. Any more than that, I don't know.

Ways to make yourself feel old:

Start a sentence in your mind with "Kids these days..."

Realize that a former student (and, by extension, her agemates) are starting high school next year.

Amusing said former student by saying, "That's almost as bad as all the young teens I knew when we were in Sacramento getting married the last couple of years."
