  • Testing one, two, three... Is this thing on? *tap tap tap*

It's been three years. ...Well, more like two and a half. It'll be three years this June. Let me start again... About three years ago I instigated a project inside h2g2.com called QuadBee. I was informed by wiser people than myself that maybe this project inside h2g2.com wasn't such a good idea. I then fretted and whined a bit, and proceeded to remove everything I'd done about the project from h2g2.com entirely. For some reason, probably having to do with a drunken stupor, I saved all the entries I had deleted from h2g2.com in the form of textfiles that I left in a zipdisk which was then used as a beer coaster for the past three years. At Vegiman's request, I hunted around the house for them, found them under an empty bottle of Shinerboch, and proceeded to put them back where I'd originally posted them.

What was QuadBee? It was a project fully titled The Tales Of The Big Bang Burger Bar. It was an attempt to organize group fan fiction. At the time it appeared Douglas Adams was done with it. He was working on a movie script for the first book, and there were no indications he was ever going to write the sixth book in the trilogy. Actually there was no need for a sixth book in a trilogy. He'd already graced us with the fourth and fifth books of the trilogy, which was far above and beyond the effort necessary to grace us with a trilogy at all, and we the human race are eternally in his debt.

Still, we fans of his fiction were going to write the sixth book in the trilogy anyway. Unbeknownst to any of us however, Mr. Adams was already writing the sixth book in the trilogy, the results of which are slated to be published some time in the year 2002, after Mr. Adams' untimely death.

So maybe QuadBee would have become the seventh book? Who knows. Doubtful. We may or may not ever find out.

What is Jacob's Tale? It was intended to be my submission to the QuadBee project. It was left unfinished and now almost three years later I'm finding myself mesmerized by my own insipid ramblings, trying to determine from it where I was going with it. I remember what I was striving to do and where I wanted the story to end up, but it's difficult to attempt to finish it. Perhaps I will finish it someday. At present it's not done at all. Jacob's Tale is also intended to explain just how all fan fiction for DNA's works can function. Jacob's Tale actually takes place in an alternate but similar reality to the original books. It's in another universe, after Douglas Adams destroyed the last universe in the book Mostly Harmless. Other short stories written by fans can take place in the original universe, or in Jacob's universe, or in an entirely different universe. One can opt to use or not use whatever parts of DNA's GuideVerse as they so choose, but the farther they get from accuracy, the more apocryphal their writing becomes.

This page is an attempt to put this project back together. I am NOT suggesting we rekindle this project as is. It's in desperate need of overhaul. However, I want to give those who are participating in the Area 42 Project a chance to see what these pages were like and why they were taken down, for historical purposes. If QuadBee comes back, it'll be dramatically different from what you see here.

For one thing, it'll make a heck of a lot more sense. Sheesh! What drugs was I taking? *shakes head* Anyway, here's BBBB in all its painful glory. I should point out that at the time I was writing my part of the project, I was trying to avoid focusing on the major characters of Adams' works, instead creating my own characters and also borrowing a couple of his supporting players.

You can try starting with a listing of the BBBB Guide Entries that I just reinstated, or you can try this dated Table of Contents. Remember if you peruse the guide entries en masse to try and read them backwards. It might make a little more sense to read them in the dated order with which I posted them.

Please let me know your thoughts. Your input will help determine the future of this project. Thanks for reading.

This attempt at lucidity is brought to you by the letters J, L and by the number 36004.
