Well, I survived my trip to Dallas -- although sadly, wasn't able to make it to Austin. The air conditioner in the car was defunct, and there was no way I was attempting that drive without it. I did, however, have the amusement of going to Six Flags on a 109-degree day -- as all the natives stayed at home with their ACs, my sister and I were essentially the only ones there, and didn't wait in any substantial lines the whole day. Which is a good thing, because we went on every water ride in the park.
And, on to the general weirdness part of today's journal entry, here's a link someone sent my way:

I really don't know what to say to prepare you for it, you may just need to be brave enough to take the plunge....

Oh, my... You were probably here in the hottest part of the year - early this week or last. It was pretty bad, actually, and we've been told to stay inside and not breathe the air. Fortunately the last three days it's been raining, and the air is now nice and clean. It won't last...

Yeah, the air was pretty awful -- I have asthma, and my parents' dog kept barking at my wheezing. I would have stayed inside even more than I did, but there was a gas leak at their house, which meant that the air indoors was getting to me even more than the air outdoors. Oh well -- at least I was able to convince them that there really was a leak and they finally got the gas company and plumber out the last day I was there.

Glad you survived your trip. Water rides sound wonderful about now. Barton doesn't do amusement parks...he's too tall for the rides. He is willing to come with me and keep me company in line but that's silly (and I love him for it).
I check out the pinknun. Once it REALLY sinks in, I might have a comment.
How are the body parts doing?

Yeah, the pink nun takes some cogitating....
As far as the body goes, well, I go in for my full-body CT scan today, because they want to make sure that's clear before they let me have my meds back or have the ankle surgery (which has been pushed back twice already). Such amazing fun.... When I was little, I was convinced that CT scans were out of Star Trek -- had something to do with the lights that zip around the donut-shaped thing, and all the funky noises.

"When I was little, I was convinced that CT scans were out of Star Trek"
You mean... You're not saying... You're not trying to tell us... that they're NOT!?!

The tech doing the scan did mention that she's waiting to have one of those little Star Trek hand scanners that you just zip up and down someone. None of this having to make people drink nasty contrast juice, hooking up IVs for iodine, and strapping people onto the bench for an hour -- just zip, zip (sweep up, sweep down), and it's all done.
Now, hopefully, the report on the scans will come back all nice and negative, and I'll be able to start back on my meds as soon as I finish my antibiotics. Woo hoo!

Your parents had a gas leak? That's pretty scary... The sense of smell tends to go away as you get older, and I've heard stories of elderly people eating rotten food because they couldn't smell that it had gone bad.
Good luck on your CT scan - you say you're on antibiotics?

Yup, turned out the gas had been leaking for a whole month, since the house was struck by lightning. It was pretty noticeable to me, but it took awhile to convince my Dad (who then claimed he had smelled it all along... ).
