June 21-I had a dream....
Afgncaap5 Started conversation Jun 19, 2001
Last night (well, actually it was more like 7:45-ish this morning), in that point that lies right between being asleep and waking up, a dreamy thought formed in my mind that the BBC had decided to shut down the h2g2 project. I immediately woke up, and looked at the sunlight pouring through my window, and realized two things: first of all, that I would have to collect Emails and web addresses of other people on h2g2 if, somehow, the BBC did decide to shut down h2g2 over night, and second, the disturbing fact that I didn't really care that much.
Now, while I guess it's good that I'm not so addicted to h2g2 to care too much if it goes away, and it may also have had to do with the fact that I was still a tad groggy, but you'd think that I would get a little emotional about something that I'd not only contributed a few fairly decent entries to, not only met great people on, but had (for all intents and purposes) invested just over two and a half years of my life into. Fortunately, I still think it's a good thing that I'm not hopelessly addicted, and, as is obvious, the BBC hasn't shut down the Guide. Yet. Oh, I', pretty sure it'll happen. Most things I get interested in get shut down due to Beureaucracy. Infocom, Zork, Animorphs, MST3K, the list goes on.
Anyway, that's my thought for the month. No more thoughts for another thirty days now.....

Well, I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world if h2g2 shut down. I mean we did set up shop elsewhere during the foop. However, h2g2 is still much better than the alternatives, even with the big brothers watching over us. *waves at moderator*

Ah, but if h2g2 were to close down for good, decent fascimiles would exist. After all, the only reason h2g2 is so popular is because of the excellent structure behind the conversation forums, and the tie-ins to Douglas Adams and the HHGTTG series. The fact that it contains guide entries is just a happy, profitable convenience.
In other words, should h2g2 go away, another could rise into its place. After all, remember that one website idea that I emailed you about.

This is a discussion that, perhaps, should not be continued here, lest prying eyes and hungry ears should profit from what little intellect I possess. It's not every day that I get good ideas, after all.
>Jump Into Bottomless Pit
>Turn Off Lantern
>Kill Me Now
>Drink Poison
>Break The Mirror
>Wake The Cyclops
>Talk To Troll
>Examine Bat. Examine Torch. Eat Garlic.
I don't think that I need to continue.
