I am a pagan living in America, more importantly: I am a pagan living in Utah. This makes my life kind of interesting.

Anytime I am asked about what church I go to (this happens quite often in Utah), I am truthful about it and I say: "I am a pagan". People get this horrified look on their face like I am out to sacrifice their virgin daughter or first born. Nothing could be further from the truth!

I follow, or try to follow, the medicine path that a lot of Native American tribes follow. It is extremely peaceful and certainly does not involve any sacrificing of first born children or virgins!

Since I started seriously following the medicine path, I have become a much calmer person. I am at peace with myself. Before, when I was a member of a christian church, I had a lot of inner turmoil, I was never at ease, I was always quarreling with someone over the most inane of things.

Most people find solace in god: I found nothing but hatred, malice, anger, and hypocracy in god. I found my solace, my peace, in the medicine path.

Tell me more - do you take part in any kind of spiritual gatherings with other pagans?

What set you off on the medicine path and what are its principles?

Did you learn of it from Native Americans themselves or from some other source?

I'm very curious to know smiley - smiley

I am looking for others, a shaman in particular, so that I can grow into the path. Finding others of this type of spirituality is not easy, we don't exactly advertise.

And old friend of mine, Chris, first introduced me to the basic concepts of the Medicine Path about 13 years ago. The base priniciple would have to be that everything, from plants, to animals to rocks, has a spirit.

I do a lot of meditation and have tried my hand at spiritual healing with, I think, a little bit of success.

Any other questions, let me know.

funny...

I call that being a Jedi. Which is what I am. Yes, it's cheesy, but it explains it well.

I suppose that is one way of describing it.

The only 'contact' I've had with the Medicine Path is from sci-fi programmes like the X-Files, so I know practically nothing about it at all!

Is it something to do with everything being at one with the land?

Hope you can find a shaman.

What form does your meditation take?

Who have you tried your healing on and how did you do it? Did you prepare yourself in some special way first?

My mother told me about a TV program she'd seen recently about healing - she can do it a little herself - they were saying it can be effective against many illnesses and were emphasising the power of the mind.

Caer,
Being at one with the Universe would be a more accurate description.

Candi,
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "form of meditation", perhaps method would be better. I use the special place method of inducing my meditation. On occasion, I will try and enhance it by burning some sage or some incense.
Healing is a very broad term by Native American standards, it's not just "fixing things". Just FYI. I have tried healing on a couple of friends using transcedental meditation with a little bit of success, meaning that they were aware of my presence.

I still have a long ways to go before I get to where I want to be.

all those morons, I mean Mormons, it must be difficult! its difficult to find your own path, your upbringing has such an influence on your beliefs. My beliefs have been going thru a lot of change over the last year or so because of things that have happened

With all the ancient sites in the UK, I think it is probably easier to follow whatever path calls you. I go to Avebury stone circle fairly regularly, just to feel a link with those who built it centuries ago.

That is the great thing about the path that I follow, Shamanism. It is really more of a lifestyle than a religion.

Shamanism does believe that everything in nature has a spirit.

Just because it has a spirit does not mean that it cannot be eatn. Shamanism is not the same as being Vegan.
