h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

yesterday, the estate agent in Folkestone phoned me. He told me that negiotiations were completed and that the marvellous seaside flat was ours!!. We had to go down yesterday afternoon to pick up the keys though.

Well, we jumped into a taxi - figuratively speaking - and went down. The flat was just as lovely as I had remembered. And what was wonderful was that the was a heavy fog all day in Sevenoaks. When I went outside I started coughing immediately. Down at the coast, there was a mist on the sea, but I did not cough. Hoorah!! I am sure it is the right choice.

So now there is lots to do. I really would like to move as soon as possible.
For the next few weeks I shall probably only be here occasionally. I have so much paper work to attend to, and also lots sort and shred.. Brrr.

So my friends, I wish you all, in advance a very happy and blessed Christmas.

Oh, Christianne, i am so very, very pleased for you. It must be such a relief. Having seen how my neighbours suffered in trying to buy and sell I am so glad things have gone well for you.

Christiane, my friend, I am so happy for you. But PLEASE, take things easy and gentle with the packing and moving. Do not push yourself too hard and over-do. You want to conserve your health and energy for enjoying that sea-side, and all the aspects that are natural and beautiful.

Thank you all for your wonderful encouragement which you have given Keith and I.

I actually do have to take things very very easily!!. My Blood Pressure has been sky high this week. Very frightening.

Anyway I am determined to get down there in one peice( and very much of this world!!) and so we shall be taking things very easily and I shall let others do the !packing! etc.

We shall drink a toast to you all in aqua pura tomorrow. Both of us sadly are totally unable to take our usual champagne!!.

No my At one stage it could have been Torquay. But fortunately I found this most wonderful, perfect flat in Folkestone.

Yesterday la famille came and took us down. We had our first picnic lunch sitting on the floor. The view was splendid

La belle France was en vue!

All in all, when we saw the lights of Boulogne twinkling in the dusk and the lighthouse of Cap Gris Nez, I knew that I had arrived at my place of rest.

I have travelled very far during my nearly 80 years but in England - a country which I have loved and espoused, and France the country of "origine" so to speak, I have chosen the best of all possible worlds.

So I ask you all to drink a toast to the vintage

Vin ordinaire,1928,d'origine La Corse, Matured in fascinating circumstances and petits coins world wide.
Smooth, fruity may be drunk neat or with water.
Always welcoming to hootoo and members of the wider world.
Definitely does not leave one hung over.

Ah - it was Torquay, not Bournemouth! I think it's Portsmouth where the sailors meet (and also Plymouth). I think Folkestone will be nearer for a visit, and I don't know it very well (if at all), so it will be lovely to visit you there.

Of course I'll drink you you, although I think you're vintage extraordinaire, rather than vin ordinaire! I didn't know you were born on Corsica!

So, do you intend to 'cultiver ton jardin', like Candide? (I remember that Voltaire thought England so dreadful that he did not allow him to land as we thought it advisable to kill and admiral or two from time to time 'pour encourager les autres'.

I wish you happy times in your new home.

We are hoping to be in by the middle of the month so there is a lot to do.
I am really excited as it is such a beautiful flat and there is a most woderful view across the channel. There is a new train from St. Pancras and apparently that only takes 53 minutes. I am amazed with Folkestone. I did write a long piece about it as we were in Folkestone/Dover the day war was declared, but I somehow lost it!!. I can only remember being quite tragically upset at having said au revoir to my darling Grandpere and Granddmere and beung scared stiff with the sound of the air raid sirens.i

No I was not born in Corsica. I was "conceived" in Corsica where my parents were honemooning in 1927!! I have always maintained that this was the cause of my rebellious nature - if indeed I am rebellious. I trust I shall not grow into a flat old pancake.

You know that once we ar installed you will be so very welcome. K. even has a little cove right in front of the flat. The beac is sandy, not horrid stones, with a nice rocky outcrop. He is hoping to catch fish from there. !!

If I can get my wheelchair down we might even have a BBQ - or braaivleis as we called it in South AFrica.
It is going to be a very happy 2008 You will have to come and help me celebrate my eightieth birthday. I am hoping that Mr. and Mrs. WS and LLWaz and anyone else who might be around will come and help me celebrate this milestone. It is quite a noble age even if I am in a wheelchair. !!
