Hi Rich,

Next week it´s going to rain here, the weather forecast says.
If you finally come in November, there are as many posibilities that it doesn´t rain as that it does. A friend of mine went to Granada last year in November, it was sunny all the week.
Even if it´s cold at night, many bars keep the terrazas open, but in any case many are open during the day, even in winter.

Imaging it´s raining... well, the tapas will taste the same indoors, the beauty of the city won´t vanish, nor cheerful people, nor pretty girlssmiley - biggrin
and don´t forget the Alpujarras, I can´t think of a best place for a rainy autumnal day. It´s also the ideal place for people who travel alone. Think of Gerald Brenan.
And... The fact that you are going to get married doesn´t mean you have to forget about travelling by yourself, aren´t you going to do the Camino again? a great experience both in groups or alone as you well know.

My friend, I really don´t feel pity for you at all, you are a quite fortunate man.

Thanks again, all. I'm rather melodramatic lately, and haven't got time to reply to you all specifically, I'm afraid.

I'll update this thread properly as soon as I can.

Hi Rich,
don´t worry about replaying "specifically" Updating information is enough.
It is not melodramatic, it is stressed as anyone in your situation, getting things ready for a wedding, would be.
Try not to desperate about what your brother is preparing. Surely, all will be alright .

This will give you a smile. It´s not the only Spanish group who has made a version of that song.

Tonight, we went to see the duo who are playing at our UK reception, and all of a sudden everything looks rosy again. We're doing a good job here, overwhelming though it all feels sometimes. My cousin and his wife came along, and they both thought Mahoney were great.

Here are a few of their songs:

They're pretty damn good, eh?

They played at the hotel where Lainey works, and she was half-interested until she heard them play 'Down Under'. Then her ears pricked up; she reckoned these guys had the right sound.

We went over and saw them the following week, and they played a lot of fairly obscure rock stuff. Lainey and I both reckoned that, as we were watching them in a fairly down-at-heel, studenty pub on a quiet night in Newton Abbot, they'd probably an altrnative set for functions. We saw enough to book them, though - I found them in the interval and had a chat, and in passing explained how they'd first appealed to Lainey.

The second song they played in the second half was Down Under, and it was indeed just what I reckoned we were after. It's probably the only gig booking that's ever been confirmed by a bloke sticking his thumb in the air from the back of the pub before putting his coat on and going home.

You can call me TC

smiley - grr that song is smiley - yuk We sing it in one choir I'm in.

Bear with me, because what is about to come is really funny, at least it has me in hysterics every time we sing it.

The verse "I'm going to lay down my cares and woes" sung by a bass soloist who has no command of English whatsoever, comes out sounding like "Käsefiess" which, in our local dialect sounds like "cheesy feet". In fact, they call it the "Käsefüss" song. However, you have to come from around here to get the joke, really, I suppose.

Apart from that, I hate singing it. Now we've started on another one of those old things in another choir I'm in - A-men. It was all very well when I was 12 and in the Guides, but now!

smiley - laugh Ah, the wonders of bad pronunciation. We once heard an American choir trying to do "Silent Night" in German. "Stille Nackt, heilige Nackt..." (Which, for those of you who don't get it, translates to "silent naked, holy naked")

I always got stuck with the "I'm gonna lay down my sword and shield, down by the riverside, and study war no more" bit when I was walking back from swordfighting training along the Wupper smiley - whistle I always kept them, though.

pailaway - (an utterly gratuitous link in the evolutionary chain)

Just to try and put a finer point on it - we have two pronunciations for naked. One is the proper 'naked' by which we would mean, say, "she's got no clothes on" - and the other is the vernacular 'nekkid' meaning, "she's got no clothes on, and she's up to something".

Is Nackt like this?

(smiley - laugh)
