For my own benefit, a space to drop tunes that occassionally get stuck in my head. This one has been with me for a few weeks, but haunted me through much of my later teens ...
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need for friendship
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock
I am an island
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I'd never loved,
I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no-one and no-one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And the rock feels no pain
And an island never cries

Wouldn't it be nice if we could really "choose" the one's that get stuck? Some days, it's Donovan, others the Mama's and the Papa's. Heck, on a rare day even those Bay City Rollers !!! Now THAT is scarey.

Indeed, a fortunately very-short-lived blast. Our local radio station occassionally dusts off the 8-track player, and drops one of their "tunes" on at lunch time.

You would have been. I had just left home, aged 17, and most of the girls I knew were very much enamoured of those lads. So of course, I had to pretend to like the "music" too. The things a lad with hormones will do, eh?

I can neither remember a song title, nor what they looked like - but I think they wore very long shawls which became very popular then

I don't remember their attire, just that they were the first "cute boy-band". So all of the girls fell for them.

well, I think some girls here fell for them, but as I wasn't allowed to go to the disco and had no money to buy any pop magazines or records, I wasn't involved in that

You really did not miss much. And I was never allowed to go to any dances or other social things when I was at home. The first time I tried to actually dance, I was maybe 19 or 20.

Awwwww. I just received some pictures in the mail. My "baby", who's favourite song has always been the one that we danced at her wedding .....
I recall the night that you came into this world.
I couldn't believe the doctor when he said: "It's a little girl."
I said: "Now Doc, you must be wrong. You see I want a boy."
Then he laid you in my arms and my heart sang with joy.
Chorus: (sung by a child)
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.
I recall the day I took you to a baseball game.
You brought along your baby doll and half its' baby things.
We sat there a-playin' house, while the Dodgers played the Braves.
And ev'ryone in the bleachers looked at us as if to say.
(Chorus)
I recall the day I took you on a fishin' trip,
You said: "Daddy won't that hook hurt the fishes' lip?"
And you said if they don't get air, those things in the can will die.
So we turned the worms all loose and chased some butterflies.
(Chorus)
I recall the day that your young man come to call.
Seems like only yesterday, you swam and played football.
But I know the time has come, that I must set you free.
But no matter where you are, you know what you are to me.
Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
I'm the centre of Daddy's world.
I know I'm Daddy's number one,
For he loves me like I was his son.
Daddy's Girl.

Have you seen the wonderful BBC documentary "Walk On By" on the history of pop music?...great stuff...Simon and Garfunkel certainly wrote and performed the most memorable and evocative songs that cruise around in my head...Scarborough Fair, Old Friends, Hazy Shade of Winter

The Bay City Rollers were from Scotland and wore kinda cropped trousers, very tight shirts and all trimmed with tartan............lead singer was called Les McKeown and is still singing in a band of the same name as far as I know, but not the original members of course!!
I'm wasted on here........should be playing Trivial Pursuit
