... it becomes necessary to walk off the job, mostly because a job is defined as labor for pay, and when pay is not forthcoming, the job is over, it behooves a person to let their friends know that they are looking for work.

Strong *honest* unions. The problem with the unions I've been in contact with over here is that they're more crooked than the managers.

It turns out that while failing to pay one's employees is illegal, the law is, for the most part, without teeth. No jail time, relatively small penalties.
