Am currently in the local library, with the news that I am 'off air' for the foreseeable future; until I find the time to play Mr Fixit - which I'm hopefully capable of!
Booting up this morning, I got the heartwarming message that Windows could not start, because the Windows-system32-config-system file was either missing or corrupt - wonderful! Just what I wanted to read
Now the only problem is where did I put the bl**dy original Windows disk? Bluesue will know from personal experience, the gynormous number of plastic 'under bed tubs' there are in the spare room. It could take generations to find what I need.
Meanwhile I shall have to thank the local council for this facility.

I hope you get sorted soon Scorp. We don't realise how much our computers mean to us until they do things like that.
is the answer. You WILL find it if you don't go looking frantically

I appear, to be up and running. After sorting the problem and getting a boot-up, I decided to play safe and do a full backup. No go area. I have an external hard drive - which has twice the capacity of the PC; but the bl**dy thing wouldn't let me back up the whole system - telling me there was no such thing as a P drive or I didn't have access! RUBBISH. So! I have compromised and just backed up all my docs/pictures/programmes etc; when asked where to - I went through the back door - into my computer and selected the external hard drive (surprise, surprise, marked 'P') Lo and behold, it worked a treat. Bring back the quill pen

It's mostly unlocked lil! I'm a very light sleeper and so is the cat. Plus I need to be out and about in the early hours to feed brer fox and co. As we are in a 'certain area' with a few very dubious friends; nobody in their right mind would try to break in. We have a friend; and I said to him the other week, aren't you bothered about somebody stealing your bike; which is just left unattended - a no name machine - he said "it's a biker's bike" - nobody would steal it and live.

Well done Scorp,i have no idea what the back door is all about,as you know,i only have a front door, and that is round the back If i had known my pc. had a back door,i would have gone in it,just to see what was there, Never mind the quill pen, bring back the stone tablets or tablets that are made of stone or just tablets that get you stoned even,
