Are you sure you're in Glasgow, Edward?
Had heard of Pelegaya, yes. Mainly, though, because she was on a Strictly Come Dancingesque programme where a singer and a celeb partnered up to do a duet each week, with judging and phone voting blah blah blah. She stood her partner up live on (Russian) national TV one week, so she was hard to miss. Still, I quite like that sort of rocked up folk thing she has going.
I never bother trying to read Russian handwriting. It bears no relation to printed Russian and looks like nothing more than a bunch of joined up Ms.

It seems that many Russians think she's spelled with a P. (or R)
Yup. Modern, Multi-Kulti Glasgow. This weekend I've addressed people - to various extents - in French, German, Russian, Arabic, Turkish and Swedish.
Maaaan....this city is crazysexycool.
One thing I noticed that other cities don't do quite so well: all age groups mix.
Ooh! Ooh! Shall I name drop who I stood next to watching the T Rex covers band? You'll never guess!
(and I have a photo to prove it)

Man. Tall, black man. With cornrows and pigtails. Appears in Orange adverts.
Straight up! I have a photo to prove it.

I notice a lot more mixing of age groups now that I'm a bit older... though it may have happened when I was younger, too, and I didn't notice, I expect to some extent it's on account of new blood coming into the same scene, if you know what I mean.
One of the reasons we didn't jump to make an offer on that one house we thought we liked quite a bit (aside from the basement being a bit too small) was that the neighborhood there is a bit too homogenous for my tastes- I like it a bit more multi-culti and all that, even if it means putting up with the odd hipster now and then.

Well...wherever you buy, it will get more Multi-Kulti. Bound to happen. It's happening round our way. I had a lovely trip down memory lane earlier today, talking to S's best friend's parents (who live over the road) about these people:

Best gig I ever went to! Sandanista Solidarity, Brixton Fridge. Real Sounds of Africa, Thomas Mapfumo, Hugh Masekela, The Bhundu Boys. It was my friend Y's birthday and I met her and her GF at the wine bar managed by my best friend J. He served champagne and JD cocktails and gave her a fresh bottle of JD as we headed out. Dynamite gig. I danced all nite with this *stunning* Asian girl. Just as I was about to get her phone No, GF came and grabbed be because Y was lying in a pool of her own vomit at the side.
Ah...memories.
