Let's see how long this lasts...
In the light of the BBC's bizarre refusal to publicise the Disaster Emergency Committee's Gaza appeal

I've changed my name. Above you will either see my U number, or the URL of the site for donations.
Anyone feel like following suit?
Civilian suffering is not, as the BBC claims, a political issue. It's a humanitarian issue.

Even humanitarian issues are not allowed to be advertised on the BBC. I did a sponsored fast in aid of a charity which provides aid to starving Africans. I had to remove the links to their website and stop mentioning their name.

In this case, G, the precedent is that the Disasters Emergency Committee (Oxfam, Save The Children, Christian Aid, Islamic Relief) are routinely given airtime.

I think, Ed, that the essential difference is that mere disasters are not so politically charged that the BBC doesn't run the risk of appearing to take sides.
It's not enough that the Beeb be impartial, they have to appear that way.
And by impartial I mean, of course, pro Israeli.

Except that they've broadcast DEC appeals recently following the Lebanese and Congolese wars...and back in 1967 in aid of Vietnamese children. Plus the govt. think they're wrong.
The most sensible (sic!) explanation is that the BBC has recently become hyper-cautious following the tabloid furore over Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross.
Basically, they're just being unimaginably daft.

Does the distribution of aid in Gaza go through Hamas at their insistence?

Would that be Hamas, the democratically and legally elected government of the Palestinian state?

It wouldn't go through Hamas, anyway. The DEC charities are independent.
*However* - Hamas are currently distributing aid of their own. What better way of turning the population torwards them than by shutting down alternatives?

No, Hamas the democratically and legally elected governing body of the Palestinian territory of Gaza.
